The Carolina Reaper has a sweet and fruity flavor, that is right before the heat kicks in.
A cross between Pakistani naga and Habanero, this one gives a real punch in your face! With almost 2,200,000 SHU, the Carolina Reaper bags the Guinness world record for the hottest chili! Unlike other chilies, this one is not found naturally but its man-made hybrid first produced in South Carolina.
Here are few things to know before you try out the chili –
1. Capsaicin is what gives peppers their heat, and it’s most heavily concentrated around the tissues that connect the seeds to the pepper.
2. The Carolina Reaper chili is 400 times spicier than the tasty Jalapeno peppers you can get on pizzas, which only rate a chilly 3,500 on the Scoville scale.
3. The Carolina Reaper is so strong, you’re supposed to wear gloves when you hold it.
4. The only thing that works is casein protein, which is found in milk.
5. The tip has very little heat and that’s what most people eat first. It’s the second bite that gets you because you’re biting into the vein and that’s the hottest part of the chili pepper.
6. Only mammals feel the heat of a chili, they don’t affect birds at all!
